Train the Trainer – Horticulture course has started

Horticulture Training at UNAM Ongwediva

With regard to our news from the 20th of March, we would like to update that the Horticulture Training has started on the 16th of April (and will end on the 5th of June). The training takes place every week on Thursdays and Fridays at the Rainwater Harvesting and Irrigation Field Laboratory at UNAM Ongwediva and in total 9 participants are on site. They are from the Rural Development Center Ongwediva, the Rural Development Center in Okashana, the UNAM Ogongo Agricultural Campus as well as from the MAWF DAPEES. To give a brief insight on the training contents, here are just a few of the discussed topics:

  • Principles of Rainwater Harvesting and water storage
  • Irrigation and water saving measures
  • Fertilizer and pesticide usage as well as detection of pests
  • Table banking and accounting
  • Participatory extension approaches
  • Monitoring and evaluation of farming success

This training serves as an example on how expertise can be generated within the institutions. The acquired knowledge ensures that future farmers receive professional advice and support and this means that Rain- and Floodwater Harvesting has the chance to sustainably establish within central-northern Namibia.

At the moment we are still accepting additional trainees – potentially interested candidates can please contact Isaac Kariuki for further information and assistance under following number +264 81 2362942.
