Subsurface water storage facility opens in Namibia

A pilot plant for „Subsurface Water Storage“ in Iipopo/Namibia was officially opened on March 9th 2012. The technology is part of the CuveWaters project, which is being coordinated by ISOE. The project team is using it to test a technology that allows flood water to be stored under the ground and be retrieved and used, at high quality, during dry periods. The collected water is primarily for growing fruit and vegetables so that the people living in the village can have a balanced diet. Scientists from the Technical University Darmstadt oversaw the construction, together with One World Consultants from Kenya. They also trained the operators in horticulture. The CuveWaters team regularly performs a series of measurements to monitor the operation of the pilot plant
