Successful start-up of washhouse and wastewater treatment plant in Outapi
On April 23rd 2013 the washhouse in the informal settlement of Onhimbu/Okayekongwe in Outapi was officially inaugurated together with OTC, DAPP, the CuveWaters team and local residents. Toilets, showers and laundry washing facilities can now be used for an entrance fee of 0.5 N$. During the first month of operation more than 6000 visitors have been counted at the washhouse, in average 200 visitors each day. Currently, visitors mainly shower and wash their clothes (ca. 80% of the water use).

First Namibian PhD candidate within CuveWaters successfully defended her thesis
Kaliki Kambanda, PhD candidate from Namibia has successfully defended her Phd thesis on the „Evaluation of Desalination techniques for treating the brackish water of Olushandja Basin” on 8th of May 2013 at the University of Trier (Department of Hydrology). Kaliki Kambanda is currently working as a senior scientist at Namibia Water Corporation Ltd, the national water supplier of most cities in Namibia. Namibian and German students conducting joint research in Amarika
From January 25th until February 13th 2013, a team of two students from Namibia (David Amutenya and Abner Nghoongoloka, UNAM, Faculty of Science, Geology Department) and a German student (Cornelia Driessen, Technical University Darmstadt, Faculty of Civil Engineering, MSc. Environmental Engineering) were on a research field trip at the site of the CuveWaters desalination pilot plants in Amarika. Rainwater Harvesting Green Village Onamishu in operation
The first Green Village constructed without financial support by CuveWaters is now in operation in the village Onamishu in Engodi Constituency, Oshikoto region (central-northern Namibia). Funded by the Namibia Development Trust and the Okashana Rural Development Center constructions were carried out under the supervision of Joseph Macura from One World Consultants (Kenya), Simon Namupala (Blue Team Epyeshona) and Rauna Nakahambo (Farm Manager Iipopo). Rainwater Harvesting facilities under construction in Onamishu village, (Eengodi Constituency/Oshikoto Region)
CuveWaters is proud to announce that the rainwater harvesting approach developed within the project is now also under construction in the village Onamishu in the Engodi constituency in Oshikoto region. Funded and supported by the Namibia Development Trust (NDT) – Okashana Rural Development different storage tanks, a greenhouse and a communal garden are currently under construction.
