Innovative technologies for Africa’s dry regions

In Namibia, the CuveWaters project has taken a quantum leap in innovation: In a region ruled in equal parts by floods and droughts, natural water resources can now be used year round. Drinking and irrigation water is being won with the help of different pilot plants. The joint research project coordinated by ISOE – Institute for Social-Ecological Research – will present the results of its work at the Water Investment Conference in Windhoek/Namibia.[more]

Release of the Digital Atlas

We are happy to announce the release of the first version of the Interactive Digital Atlas of the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin. CDs with the atlas will be available at the booth of the CuveWaters project during the Water Investor Conference which takes place at 12–14 September 2012 in Windhoek. Furthermore, an online version will be soon available at www.cuvewaters.net or www.the-eis.com.

The three new CuveWaters factsheets provide background information on the pilot projects: Rainwater Harvesting, Subsurface Water Storage and Sanitation and Water Re-use. They place a special focus on the first research results, that include technical facts, cost estimates and benefits for the population. Scientists, decision-makers in politics and business as well as the interested public can collect these fact sheets during the Water Investment Conference in Windhoek from 12–14 September 2012 at the CuveWaters stand or download them directly here.

Application for CuveWaters Phase III

The German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) encouraged CuveWaters to submit an application for further funding. Phase II of CuveWaters will run until June 2013; the implementation of the pilot plants will be completed then. Phase III is expected to start mid of 2013 until 2015. In cooperation with the Namibian partners, CuveWaters intends to duplicate the four CuveWaters technologies: Rainwater Harvesting, Subsurface Water Storage, Groundwater Desalination and Sanitation and Water Re-use.
