Open Air Cinema in Iipopo and Epyeshona

The new CuveWaters movie “WaterChanges” which was produced during June and July 2012 in the CuveWaters pilot villages in Namibia was screened on 26th and 27th of October 2012 in Iipopo and Epyeshona. At both locations, more than 40 people attended this unique event as for both villages it was the first Open Air Cinema. The audience was especially delighted to see well known village residents living their everyday life and using the new water and gardening facilities implemented by CuveWaters. [more]

Project CuveWaters nominated for the 2012 “Sustainable Developments” research award

The research project CuveWaters has been nominated for the “Sustainable Developments” research award of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). This makes the research team from the German state of Hesse, led by ISOE – Insitute for Social Ecological Research in Frankfurt/Main, one of the competition’s three finalists. This year, the prize will be awarded during the award ceremony of the German Sustainability Prize on December 7th in Duesseldorf/Germany for the first time.[more]

Stakehoder workshop from 23rd to 26th October in Ongwediva

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry in cooperation with CuveWaters invited project partners to a stakeholder workshop from 23rd to 26th October 2012 in Ongwediva. The main objective of the workshop was to evaluate Phase II of CuveWaters project and have a joint planning for Phase III. During the first two days the group visited all pilot plants of the project. 

The workshop offered an excellent opportunity to reflect on where the project stands regarding its achievements and challenges as well as to craft jointly a proposal for Phase III. Furthermore, roles and...[more]

First Harvest from gardens at the Subsurface Water Storage pilot plant in Iipopo

In March 2012 the ten jointly selected farmers running the Subsurface Water Storage pilot plant in Iipopo received three week training in all aspects of water management, irrigation and horticulture. The training was carried out by Isaac Kariuki and Beatrice Wambui from One World Consultants (Kenya) together with the Darmstadt University of Technology.  Isaac Kariuki and his team had already carried out the constructions of the pilot plants both in Iipopo as well as for the Rainwater Harvesting pilot plants in Epyeshona.
