Presentation on Ongwediva Trade Fair

From 22  to 30 of August 2014 CuveWaters presented itself on the Ongwediva Trade Fair (OATF). The project was part of the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry. Members of the ministry and staff of CuveWaters offered information about the project. Furthermore the visitors were invited to watch the CuveWaters short films. OATF is an annual, multi-sectoral trade and business exhibition that is held under the auspices of Ongwediva Town Council.[more]

Training course on Rainwater Harvesting construction at UNAM Engineering Campus Ongwediva

As part of the CuveWaters capacity development measures a five week training course on Rainwater Harvesting Tank construction will take place at UNAM Engineering Campus in Ongwediva from 25th of August until 26th of September. Approximately 15 people will learn during that timeframe how to construct different tanks for rainwater harvesting, a greenhouse, drying units, how to install drip irrigation systems and to implement gardens. CuveWaters research project at the IFAT 2014: “Aquadome” at the BMBF-booth

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will also be present at the IFAT, the world’s largest trade fair for environmental technology in Munich/Germany. From May 5th to May 9th, the BMBF will be presenting current research results from its funding priority “Sustainable water management” (NaWaM) in Hall A5 under the motto “Experiencing the blue miracle”. The main attraction will be the “Aquadome”, a special movie presentation in a 3D dome tent. Master Thesis on the use of rainwater as drinking water using small-scale water treatment systems

From February 03rd until 24th 2014 Tatjana Wawilow a student from Darmstadt University of Technology, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, MSc. Environmental Engineering was on a research field trip in central-northern Namibia as part of the research activities of the CuveWaters project. The main question of her research conducted as part of her Master Thesis was to develop and implement a small-scale water treatment plant for drinking water purposes from harvested rainwater.

News from the gardens in Epyeshona and Iipopo

After almost a yearlong drought-related production stop of the rain and floodwater harvesting plants in Epyeshonas and Iipopos gardens, this years slightly above-average rain season has lead to a sufficient amount of water for cultivation of fruit and vegetables at the CuveWaters pilot plants. In Iipopo water for irrigation purposes is collected from the local Oshana which now has an adequate water level as well as water quality and at the end of the rain season water will be collected from there and led to the provided storage basins.
